What You Get With Progress Learning
The New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) is a statewide, standards-aligned assessment for high school students. The NJSLA measures proficiency in core academic areas like English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science to track progress and guide instructional improvements.
The NJSLA is computer-based, administered through the TestNav platform, with a paper-based version available for students requiring accommodations. The NJSLA offers two testing windows: fall block testing (December) for Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II, and spring testing (April to May) with make-up sessions in June.
NJSLA tests are administered in Grade 9 for ELA, in Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II in the years they’re completed, and Science in Grade 11.
High school students in New Jersey should prepare for the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) by integrating practice exams into their study routines. Focus on core content reviews while also practicing important test-taking strategies such as time management, stress reduction, and the process of elimination.
The NJDOE offers extensive resources for both assessments. Practice tests, released items, and blueprints for the NJSLA are available through the New Jersey Assessment Resource Center, including examples of the types of questions students will encounter. These resources help students and teachers align their preparation with New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS). Educators can use these materials along with benchmark assessments to track student progress and adjust instruction.
