What You Get With Progress Learning
Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) are Minnesota’s state-mandated evaluations for academic standards. They’re desienged to monitor academic progress and guarantee students have equitable access to learning. They’re also aligned to federal requirements under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
The MCA is administered annually every spring, usually in digital format. Paper tests are available for students who need special accomodations. The online format allows for interactive questions, including drag-and-drop and graphing tasks. Each subject test is divided into multiple sections, and schools can schedule these sessions across multiple days.
Students take the Reading assessment in grades 3-8 and 10, Math in grades 3-8 and 11, and Science in grades 5, 8, and in high school years after taking a life science course.
Start by understanding the MCA tests’ format and content. The Minnesota Department of Education offers sample questions and released tests to help students prepare. Practicing key test-taking strategies can also help students feel more prepared for the test.
Educators can help students prepare by reinforcing core skills covered within the tests, like reading comprehension and problem solving. Online learning platforms provide practice tools and can offer immediate feedback to help students identify where they might need to improve before the test.
