What You Get With Progress Learning
The Ohio State Tests (OST) are the standards aligned assessments for the state of Ohio in elementary and middle school. They’re designed to help ensure students master state standards and prepare for future academic success, as well as helping influence class planning.
OSTs are usually administered online using the Test Delivery System (TDS), though some distrcts might offer paper versions depending on the needs of students. The Ohio Department of Education offers testing windows, which schools can then choose from based on their schedules.
Students take the ELA and Math OSTs annually in grades 3-8 and the Science OST in grades 5 and 8.
Elementary age students should focus on reading proficiency and foundational math skills, particularly when it comes to the 3rd grade reading assessment. Practice tests can help students familiarize themselves with the types of questions they can expect to find on each assessment.
Every year, the Ohio Department of Education releases roughly half of its test items to help students understand what to expect on assessments. Educators can use these resources alongside benchmark assessments and checkpoints tests offered on the ODE website.
