About Virginia SOL Testing

What is the Standards of Learning Test?
The SOL Test is the Virginia Department of Education’s exam based on the state’s Standards of Learning.

Assessments are usually administered in the spring, and provide a measure of student benchmarks relative to the Virginia Standards of Learning — both to determine where individual students need additional support, and identify which schools are excelling or struggling in teaching standards.

At the elementary school level, students are administered the Math and Reading exam each year, the Science exam in 3rd and 5th grade, and the Virginia Studies test in 4th grade.

How do you prepare for SOL?

Interactive Practice Questions

Help students get familiar with the specific format and types of questions they’ll find on the exams with practice questions that interactively respond to student input.

Skills-Based Learning Modules

Meet Updated Accountability and Accrediation Regulations

Virginia recently adopted new regulations for how schools are accredited and held accountable for state standards. This makes it more important for ever to ensure that students are prepared for their SOL tests based on Virginia’s state standards.
