About TCAP Testing

Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) has been the state’s testing program since 1988, and assesses mastery in math, English language arts, and science, as well as alternative assessments, like MSAA and TCAP-Alt, for students with special needs.

Assessments take place between April 13 and May 8.

Students in grades 3-5 must all complete assessments in English language arts, Mathematics, and Science.

How Do You Prepare for TCAP?

Identify Problem Areas

Regular assessments of standards-aligned material can help students make up knowledge gaps ahead of TCAP testing.

Employ Targeted Intervention

Create individual study and practice testing in students’ weak areas.

Practice Testing

Help students get more comfortable sitting for testing windows and answering questions online. Progress Learning can help by providing standards aligned practice to help students prepare for testing.

Optional Testing

Tennessee also offers optional testing for 2nd grade. The Grade 2 optional assessment measures student mastery of the Tennessee Academic Standards in English Language Arts and mathematics.
