What You Get With Progress Learning
The Regents Examinations are New York State Learning Standards-aligned assessments, administered to high school students across a range of subjects. Passing a certain number of Regents Exams was historically a requirement for graduating high school, though as of 2024 this requirement will begin to be phased out in favor of multiple pathways for demonstrating competence and justifying graduation.
Regents Examinations are generally administered in a paper-based format, and can be adminstered in January, June, or August.
Regents Examinations cover a range of subjects across ELA, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. As of 2024, current Regents Exam subjects include:
Start by breaking down each subject into manageable topics and set weekly goals to review key concepts. Utilize past Regents exams, available through the New York State Education Department website, as practice tests to familiarize yourself with the question formats and time constraints. These exams can also help identify areas where you may need more focused study. Make time to review errors from practice exams to understand any misconceptions, and consider studying with peers to discuss challenging topics. Building good test-taking habits, such as managing your time effectively during exams and staying calm, will also improve performance.
Educators can support students by aligning their curriculum with Regents exam standards and providing frequent opportunities for practice and review. Use released Regents questions as formative assessments to monitor students’ understanding throughout the year, adjusting instruction based on common challenges or gaps in knowledge. Group activities and discussions around complex topics, especially in subjects like algebra and global history, can make the material more engaging for students and more memorable come test time.
