About STAAR Testing

The State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness test, also known as the STAAR, is a state testing program developed by the Texas Education Agency. These exams are designed to measure students’ understanding and proficiency. They play a crucial role in determining students’ readiness for graduation, college, and careers.

STAAR EOC exams take place multiple times throughout the school year. They are administered in the winter, spring, and summer in December, April, and June.

High school students take End-of-Course (EOC) exams for particular subjects, including Algebra I, Biology, English I, English II, and U.S. History.

How Do You Prepare for STAAR?

Start by reviewing the STAAR released test questions from the Texas Education Agency to understand the test’s content and structure. Then, create your own questions and assessments to help students with the topic they need to study. Progress Learning makes specific standards aligned practice and exam review easy with a variety of tools for teachers, including a comprehensive assessment and assignment builder.

For high school educators, your approach to STAAR test prep may vary by student and subject. Consider reviewing specific topics during class periods or dedicating time for focused study sessions or one-on-one tutoring. By tailoring your teaching strategy to your students, you will improve their TEKS mastery and STAAR success.

STAAR Online Redesign

The new STAAR Online was implemented in the 2022-2023 school year to better reflect classroom learning and show what students know. The new test includes a shift towards online testing and new question types that go beyond multiple choice.

The test also places a greater emphasis on evidence-based writing responses and there will be extended constructed responses, or essays, at every grade level. In addition, STAAR Online will combine subjects in passages to assess broader understanding.
